Friday, 28 October 2011. HAPPY HALLOWEEN (or Guy Fawkes night) October 28, 2011. So you see I have been busy the past couple of months. The carving of jack-o-lanters derived from England, Scotland and Ireland's custom of carving turnips into lanterns as a way of remembering the souls held in purgatory. But immigrants to North America used the pumpkin as it was readily available and much bigger making it easier to carve then a turnip. Remember remember, the fifth of November. Gunpowder, treason and plot.

Tuesday, 26 July 2011. A very special visit from the US of A! July 26, 2011. Ah, to be young again. Conscientiousness backfired because their window seat companion had them up and down the whole flight using the bathroom! So suffice it to say, they didn't get much sleep. That's Elise in front and Laura behind her on the right. I don't have a photo shop. On my computer to pull the shot in more. Elise (left) and Laura. They still aren't positive how those huge stones were moved with no machinery. But t...

Tuesday, 22 February 2011. Good Days and Bad Days February 22, 2011. Tomorrow will be a good day. I am leaving in the morning for Ohio for my nephew's wedding. I am looking so forward to the wedding and the addition of another niece to our family. My sisters are coming from Washington state and some aunts and uncles from various midwestern areas. Also my daughter Melanie will be coming from Oklahoma. Really excited to see everyone. No they don't think that! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Musings of a People...

Sunday, 24 October 2010. A visit from the USA: Part I: IRELAND 10/21/10. I can't believe that Sarah and Cathy's visit has come and gone so fast. But what a breath of fresh USA air to see their smiling faces coming off that plane! We had such a great time, even if it was a bit of a whirlwind. Me being the rookie tour guide learned some valuable lessons along the way that will help for planning subsequent visits. Cathy and Sarah were the willing guinea pigs, being our first visitors. Loudly while at the sa...

Tuesday, 7 February 2012. Back in the USA February 7, 2012. So a lot has been going on. I know I never blogged about our Norwegian/Iceland trip and I still want to do that. But I kept putting it off and that means that nothing was getting written! If you read my blog you know how I feel about dogs. Again, being in an apartment we are not able to have a dog yet. So I hoofed it right down to the local Humane Society. I shouldn't say "hoofed it" because I have a car now! Suddenly Connor headed down a flight...

Tuesday, 20 July 2010. July 13, 2010 Happy Birthday Gary! I am home alone again. Joe went out of town, only until tomorrow though. And he wonders why I want a dog! I am so torn on the issue because last week when he had to go to Bristol (about 2 hours away, close to Wales) I decided to go at the last minute and was able to shop at a nice mall that was near our hotel. I know if we had a pet that our spontaneity. Would be seriously affected. The RSPCA. We may be doing that sometime in August. Of course Mel...
